[Maintenance tips] Air con is not cold enough? 3 steps for testing out

Air conditioner is a common electric appliance at home, and are you facing problems like the air conditioner is not cold enough? People often say that if the newly bought air conditioner is not cold suddenly may be due to the problem of refrigerant leakage. Let Deco-Man share the causes and solutions when you are facing the above problems.

【家居保養大法】冷氣機唔夠凍可能係漏雪種?教你 3 步測試法

Step 1: Clean the filter

If you want to know if there is a problem with the air conditioner, you may wish to rule out other possibilities on your own. The first reason that the air conditioner is not cold may be the accumulation of dust inside the air conditioner. The accumulation of dust may affect the cooling capacity of the air conditioner.

Therefore, you can first try to remove the protective cover of the air conditioner, pull out the air filter, use a vacuum cleaner to remove the dust on the surface, and gently clean the remaining dust. Then, reinstall it in the air conditioner after it is completely dry, and then turn it on to observe whether the air is sent out normally. It is recommended to clean once every one to two weeks.

You can also choose some air-conditioning cleaners for deep cleaning, which can be more long-lasting. As long as the air-conditioning cleaner is sprayed on the frozen AC coils, it can dissolve the dirt on it.

Step 2: Deep cleaning air conditioner

The above methods can be easily tried by yourself. If the problem is not solved, there is a chance that the dirt is accumulated in the deep layer, where you cannot clean by yourself.

Dust accumulation can hinder the operation of the air conditioner fan or internal components, such as slowing down the fan speed and reducing the air volume, making the air conditioner not cold enough. In order to prevent the accumulation of dirt for too long and seriously affect the function of the machine, it is recommended to find a professional air-conditioning cleaner to do deep cleaning in the middle and end of the air-conditioning season.

After cleaning, a cleaning filter can also be added to the air filter, so that dust allergens will not be easily accumulated on the air-conditioning machine parts, and replacement is also simple.

Step 3: Check by technician

If the above methods do not improve the problem, it may be a problem with the parts of the air-conditioner, the type of refrigerant or installation problem. It is recommended to ask for the air-conditioning technician for inspection. After the inspection, if the compressor is considered to be operating normally, it is generally assumed that is because of the leakage of refrigerant. But what exactly is refrigerant? Why is it leaking? Is it a common solution to replace and add refrigerant?

【家居保養大法】冷氣機唔夠凍可能係漏雪種?教你 3 步測試法

What is refrigerant?

The refrigerant is generally used in air conditioners and cars. It absorbs heat at low temperatures and transfers energy to water or air at high temperatures, so it can continuously absorb heat and release it outdoors. The air-conditioner absorbs indoor heat through the circulating refrigerant, and releases the heat to the outdoors, eventually reducing the indoor temperature.

Do I need to change or add refrigerant frequently?

In fact, under normal circumstances, there is no need to consider the replacement of refrigerants. The service life of the air conditioner is generally five to ten years. The refrigerant continuously flows and circulates in the vacuum pipe of the air conditioner. As long as there is no problem with the pipe, the refrigerant naturally circulates in the machine and does not need to be replaced.

Why does the refrigerant leak?

There are many reasons for the leakage. No matter a newly purchased air conditioner or an air conditioner that has been used for many years, there is a chance that leakage may occur. Generally, there are several possibilities, all of which are related to poor installation, such as using a wrong refrigerant hose or not having enough refrigerant in the first place.

What should I do if the refrigerant is leaking?

Basically, this is not a situation that ordinary houseowners can handle on their own. Houseowners can seek help from professional technician, otherwise this situation will still occur after adding refrigerant. Therefore, if there is a leak of refrigerant and the location of the leak is not easy to repair, you can consider whether to replace it with a new air conditioner.

What should I pay attention to if refrigerant is needed to be added?

If there is a need to add refrigerant after the judgment, there are some precautions that need to be paid attention to. First of all, there are many types of refrigerants. Not every single one is suitable for your air conditioner. If you change it without knowing which is suitable, it may break the air conditioner. So, if you want to ask the technician to change or add the refrigerant, pay attention to whether the technician has asked you about the type and model of the air conditioner. If the technician does not know your air conditioner well and replaces the refrigerant, you need to be careful.

There are several types of common refrigerants. Older air-conditioners generally use R22, but because R22 is a non-environmentally friendly refrigerant, if it leaks, it will destroy the ozone layer in the atmosphere and cause adverse effects on human health and the environment. Therefore, R22 refrigerants have been banned in the new air conditioners. Most of the new air conditioners use R410A or R32 refrigerants.
