No matter how minute or massive the change is, making an interior decision is undeniably tough. What’s more, with the inexhaustible design choices available, some homeowners find it difficult to decide on a favourite. But there’s no rule that says you have to stick to a single option. Why not aim to get the best of both worlds?
Fretting over paint selections? You’re not alone. Many homeowners face the exact problem, fearing that their (bad) choices may haunt them in the long run.
Idea: You don’t necessarily have to stick to one specific colour per room when two tone walls can make a greater impact. Add an alluring touch to your interior by using two shades that come from the same colour family (i.e. rust and red), or share the same tone (i.e. warm or cool). For more excitement, combine a standout wallpaper print with a block colour that complements it.
From the nature inspired to those that emulate cement’s raw beauty, tiles now come in a vast array of designs that make decision-making even tougher.
Idea: Spice things up by mixing and matching two (or more!) types of tiles. Instead of laying them down like the norm, create standout floors by interweaving the different designs to form a unique herringbone style. There’s countless ways to configure the sequence, and figuring that out is the fun bit.
Sometimes furniture might look absolutely fab in a beautiful window display, but end up looking a little lacklustre after you’ve brought it home.
Idea: If you’ve purchased pieces such as tables, chairs, or even bed frames, give them your very own DIY dip dye treatment by painting a portion (like the legs) in a colour of your choice. Remember to select a shade that will go harmoniously with the general theme of the room. It’ll also be best to pick a shade that’s contrasting enough to pop, or else it won’t really be able to fulfil its purpose of elevating your piece of furniture’s aesthetics.
A rare commodity in the regular Singaporean household, a dutch door is pretty much like an ordinary one. Only it’s split at the middle with both top and bottom sections separated, so one half can be opened on its own.
Idea: The advantages of owning one are plentiful—for starters you can pass bags of groceries to someone in the kitchen without having to fiddle with doorknobs when your hands are full. Besides its practicality, what we love is the uniqueness of its design, especially since it’s uncommon to own one in Singapore. And if the door is painted two different shades on both sides, it’ll look adorable when one side’s swung open, especially if that side of the door has been doused in an extremely bold colour.
