We all want to design the perfect space for ourselves; however, as we’re not professional interior designers, we often don’t know where to start. Sometimes the simplest changes make the most difference, yet identifying them can be the biggest obstacle of all.

In this post, we’ll be looking at five awesome bedroom plants that can not only help you sleep better, but that will also elevate your space. Here are the plants that will help turn your bedroom into a restful and relaxing zone you love to spend time in.

The Importance of Sleep and How Plants Can Help

Before we dive in, let’s just briefly touch upon the importance of sleep.

We all tend to sacrifice it at one point or another, for whatever reason. But when we start giving too much of it up, we will start to feel more than just tired. Our mood, immunity, and productivity will begin to suffer. We might also start gaining weight, have trouble with our blood pressure, and become prone to more accidents.

To promote sleep, do a bit of research and shopping to choose the kind of mattress that truly fits your sleep needs and habits, remove all electronics from the bedroom, make sure the room is dark and cool enough, and of course, add some of these plants to the space.

1. Jasmine is Great for Relaxation

Jasmine plants are incredibly pretty, smell divine, and their scent is often used in the beauty industry. Jasmine essential oil is also used for relaxation, and the scent is thought to reduce anxiety and improve sleep quality.

As the jasmine plant is also easy to care for and its white flowers will match practically any bedroom decor, you’ll have no trouble including a couple in your own space.

House them on your windowsill and water them regularly when they are flowering. When they are not, you can let the top of the soil they live in dry out just a bit.  

2. Lavender Promotes Deep Sleep

We all connect the smell of lavender with soothing and relaxing products. From pillow mists to shower creams, it is used in all kinds of products that promote deep and restful sleep.

Lavender has been proven to reduce blood pressure, heart rate, and stress levels, making it the ideal plant for your bedroom. On the other hand, since the smell is so strong, you may want to go for something more subtle if you’re not a fan of lavender.

Know that lavender plants also require warmth and sunlight, so unless you have a sunny windowsill, you may not even be able to grow it in your home. Dried sprigs of lavender can act as a substitute, or you can use some of the lavender-based products.

3. Valerian Can Help You Fall Asleep

Valerian is often associated with cats, who have an incredible liking for it. Its pink and white flowers will look great in your bedroom – that is, if you can provide the 6+ hours of sunlight they need to thrive.

If not, you can use valerian root or valerian petals (in your bath before sleep) to help you drift off more easily. Valerian has been used to treat insomnia for years, and just a whiff of it can help you feel much less stressed and more relaxed.

4. Aloe Vera Improves Air Quality

Another plant you can house in your bedroom is the aloe vera, which produces oxygen at night, improving the quality of air in your bedroom. This will help you sleep much more soundly and prevent you from waking up as often in the night.

Aloe vera is a succulent, so it will be very easy to maintain, as it needs very little watering. It maintains moisture through its leaves, which are soft and moist-like to the touch. Aloe vera gel, derived from its leaves, can be used to treat dry skin, as well as all sorts of bites and cuts. Overall, it’s a great source of hydration.

Keep yours in a sunny spot in your bedroom, and it should be perfectly happy for years.

5. The Snake Plant Removes Pollutants

This plant might have a bit of a menacing name, and it’s also known as viper’s bowstring hemp, but it is great for removing air pollutants. It can turn toxicants into clean air, making your bedroom that much more fresh and clean.

You will need a bit of sun and a bit of shade to keep your snake plant alive. Water it regularly during spring/summer and slightly less in fall/winter.

Do bear in mind that it’s toxic for cats and dogs, so don’t get one of these if you have pets in your home.

Final Thoughts

All of these plants will make your bedroom nicer, but more importantly, they will make it a better place to sleep. Don’t be afraid of introducing them to your sleeping space, and with a bit of care, they can thrive with you for a long time to come.
