Home owners are constantly scouring for apartment ideas, taking inspiration from various magazines and online sites. But how many have ever stopped to admire outstanding backdrops featured in movies? Because they can make for some of the best interior ideas too.

1. Mon Oncle (1958)

Jacques Tati's Mon Oncle may have been produced a really long time ago, but that doesn't mean their stunning set isn't relevant. Trends are constantly recycled, and it seems to have come full circle again, since this vintage set can actually be copied into a modern home without looking out of place.

It carries a minimalistic vibe indoors, mainly monochrome, fitting for a home of this day and age. Outside it's a little more fun, with colour all around, even incorporated into the pebbles on the ground. Although both carry vastly different qualities, they're tied together with a modernism theme, and has an excellent vintage flair.

2. Marie Antoinette (2006)

The entire set for Marie Antoinette was overwhelmingly luxurious, but there are some aspects you can take from it, even if looks impossibly grand. If you lust for a more feminine French interior, then we suggest you watch the movie because it's an excellent reference.

For instance, the colour scheme. It's a beautiful mix of pastel and gold, with vintage treasure chests in blue standing out against a softer backdrop. It's eye catching especially with the pink and yellow apparel peeping out from the inside. These elements which pop can be colour references for your furniture, while the intricate floral walls at the back could make for a great wallpaper in your home.

The luxurious effect is highlighted with chandeliers, so if you could, purchase one, even if it's not particularly large or extravagant like in the movie.

3. The Devil Wears Prada (2006)

There's no doubt The Devil Wears Prada is filled with an extensive range of superb clothing, but even with that we kept our eye on the beautiful backdrops. The interiors were all chic, be it Miranda Priestly's office, apartment or hotel room. Everything was so classically modern you could literally build your home around a single screen cap.

Featured here are the office and townhouse sets, both lush and stylish in their own way. The office is of course a little more sleek and upscale, whereas the townhouse is definitely cozier, but still impeccably polished.

4. A Clockwork Orange (1971)

It's another vintage set, but strangely fits flawlessly into our current interior trends. The set makers had a knack for matching some of the quirkiest patterns, turning the living room into a vibrant and trippy space, something we're sure all vintage lovers will take notes from.

The room is a little more toned down, and our eyes automatically gravitate to the brightly coloured bedspread. The walls are filled to the brim, injected with some rather futuristic looking elements too, but the juxtaposition works extremely well. We've also noticed the array of old school equipment and row of vinyl records, a must have for vintage apartments.

5. The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)

Anything from Wes Anderson's body of work has proved to contain some of the most intriguing and gorgeous sets.  This movie is definitely no exception. Countless scenes are visually graphic, and pleasingly so, with a variety of hues and vibes used.

We've pulled out two of the subtler interior settings, which are comparably easier to take inspiration from, but still hold a tremendous amount of beauty. But if you're looking for something a little brighter and vibrant, we'd say the movie will provide you with a lot of that.
