#1: Colour Play

Whoever said you needed uniform tiles? As evidenced in the photo above, using a mixture of coloured tiles can be a really interesting detail to add to any room – while retaining the same effortlessly chic look. For starters, create your own colour palette, and stick to it as you pick out your tiles. For a space that looks well put together, make sure to use items of the same colours. For example, blue bath towels to match the overall bluish hue of the floor, and brown/beige face towels to match the more neutral toned tiles.

#2: Prints and Patterns

If you're interested in utilising patterns in your space, consider patterned tiles. Go as wacky as you wish with all sorts of prints and patterns, but make sure to stick to a complementary colour palette for a pleasing effect. And if you'd like flooring with a luxurious designer feel, mix in more patterns through the placement of your tiles like the herringbone pattern above. This will help to put your different patterned tiles together seamlessly.

#3: Mixed Media

Mixing birch wood laminate tiles with white tiles? Genius. Another herringbone patterned tiled floor, the homeowners delightfully designed this space around its outstanding flooring. Consisting of a dual colour scheme, the scandinavian mixture of birch wood and white has an overall brightening effect that extends to the floors.

#4: It's Just a Carpet

Honestly, carpets are a wonderful way to add interest into a room. Unfortunately, carpets tend to easily accumulate dust and dirt, not to mention the spills that are a pain to clean. To combat that, why not use tiles in place of a carpet? A fantastic way to introduce more colour and design in your house, it's much easier to clean, and can handle spills with absolutely no problem at all!

#5: On the Wall

Instead of brick or wood, how about a fully tiled feature wall? Simply head down to different tile shops and select your favourite unique tiles for an extraordinarily outstanding feature wall. (Psst, we've also seen someone breaking the norm and introducing tiles in the middle of his craft brick feature wall. Amazing!)

#6: Tiled Surfaces

Unable to commit to tiles that will be permanently on your floors and walls, but still want to introduce tiles into your space? This will be perfect for you. Create the ultimate focal piece/s in your home by tiling up your coffeetable, or basically any other flat surfaces like tables, chairs, or even art canvases that can be later framed and hung.

#7: Contrasting Elements

One for the more adventurous homeowners who loves the look of tiles, you simply have to consider this. Choose contrasting tiles that will meet your overall design theme and go all out – tile both your floors and walls. One thing to note, when tiling your walls, either tile them halfway up, or keep to a simple pattern. Remember, balance is key!
