Admire nicely manicured gardens and shrubbery but too space-trapped or time-strapped to have green fingers? The modern day answer arrives in the form of the terrarium. Self sustaining and taking up little space, it is planted to look like a tiny forest in a clear glass case, much like a snow globe. Since it is still not common for houses to feature terrariums, we speak with Mr Charles Loh, owner of Mossingarden to share more about this business.
He started up this business since he felt there was an opportunity for improvements in living space with a subtle but gorgeous touch of nature. "It started off about two years ago when I chanced upon a terrarium but rather wanted to create my own and explore ways of beautifying it," he explains.
To those who have not been acquainted with the idea of terrariums before, Mr Loh elaborates, "There are two types of terrariums out there, open or closed terrariums. Open ones are usually those without lids and are usually used for plants like succulents and airplants that require lots of air circulation and sunlight. Closed ones are usually used for moss, fittonias or other kinds of low maintenance, self sustaining plants."
Still not convinced about terrariums? Mr Loh says that the main drawing feature of them are that they are a low maintenance living art that is not only interesting to look at but also good as a decor or gifts these days.
If you think terrariums are solely for the nature lovers, Mr Loh is here to reassure you otherwise. "I dont't really have a main customer or target audience, nature actually is appreciated by different people , regardless of age, everyone can enjoy it!" Indeed, he goes on to explain that terrariums are so general that they can be a perfect decor or gifts, because of their personality and the ability to create substance as a form of art, anything is possible- be it wedding decor, housewarming gift, or even an anniversary or shop display.
