Last week, we embarked on a silverware journey, where we explored the various types of knives. Today, we will be discussing a utensil which is found most frequently in our kitchen cabinets. It’s what we grab whenever we want to eat from a tub of ice-cream or secretly indulge in the guilty pleasure act of eating one more scoop of chocolate spread. You’re probably thinking,”what, even spoons have many types? Must I really know about all of them?” The answer is yes, especially if you enjoy hosting dinner parties and cocktails at your place.
Iced-Beverage Spoon
As the name suggests, this spoon is used specifically for stirring cold beverages, and is served only on informal occasions. Its long handle and small bowl makes stirring of a beverage, especially if the beverage is served in a narrow container, much easier.
Dessert Spoon
This medium-sized spoon is used specifically for eating cakes and other sweet treats. Next time you feel like you are craving for a dollop of Nutella, you know which spoon to grab. Dessert spoons are served for both formal and informal dining occasions.
Cream Soup Spoon
While we are not discussing the eating establishment, this piece of cutlery is clearly the inspiration for the name of the same restaurant. Its perfectly round shape mimics the shape of the cream soup bowl, and because the bowl of the spoon is too wide to be placed fully in the mouth, it is often sipped from the side.
Egg Spoon
Spoons have very specific uses, as illustrated by the existence of the egg spoon. Its short handle and pointy tip facilitate the eating of boiled eggs.
Tablespoon
Finally, we arrive at the main course of spoons, the tablespoon. A dependable unit of measurement, the tablespoon is one of the largest available eating spoons.
Grapefruit Spoon
Otherwise known as an orange spoon, the pointy tip of the grapefruit spoon facilitates better cutting and slicing of pulpy citrus fruits.
