Like icing on the cake, the ceiling treatments of a home can elevate the interior decor to the next level. In fact, ceilings give a space definition, thereby influencing the entire look and feel. Whether with a simple coat of paint or intricate moldings, it's time that ceilings get some attention by way of interior decor. Learn how to turn your great home design into a modern architectural interest that will make people go 'wow'! There are many possible materials for your ceiling treatments, but let's narrow it down to some of the more interesting ones.
Wood: In spaces with high ceilings, the feeling of cosiness and warmth can be instantly created with wood. Decorative wooden planks and panels can be used on the entire ceiling or they can be strategically placed to add interest to an otherwise plain ceiling. Another beautiful design characteristic of wood is that it comes in very light bamboo colours all the way to dark timbre to suit individual preferences.
Metal: This one may not work for every house but it's a very interesting idea to explore to add some shiny in your ceiling. Corrugated metal ceiling will enhance eclectic, historical and rustic interior design schemes. Experiment with corrugated or embossed metal and recycled tins in aluminium or copper.
Glass: Glass is a wonderful way to make a space feel expansive as it merges the interior and exterior of the home and it's a surefire way to create a contemporary feel.
Plastic: We love plastic ceiling panels because not only do they come in all kinds of designs, they are functional and easy to maintain and can be put on or taken off and moved to a different spot with minimal hassle.
Now that we've considered the materials for our ceiling, we shall explore design options that will add style and composition to our ceilings.
Tray Ceiling: There are two kinds of tray ceilings or false ceilings - one is recessed tray and the other is inverted tray. Both add dimension and serve to break up the monotony of the ceiling, adding variation in height, turning the ceiling into a focal point. For a simple and crisp look, it can be left clean and white for a minimalist look or add a dramatic chandelier for visual impact.
Molding: Moldings are also another great idea to add to your tray ceiling. As they come in a wide range of shapes and designs, moldings can be used to create any kind of look, be it simple or intricate. Ceiling moldings can be made by hand but there are also plenty of them you can buy pre-made. Either way, it's easy to make your ceiling unique with moldings.
Paint: Your ceiling doesn't always need to stand out. For example, just by using grey for your ceiling against white walls, you will achieve a blended and chic look without looking boring. Of course you can try a bold colour, like orange for instance, especially if your tray ceiling is of an interesting shape.
Wallpaper: Wallpaper is usually used for the walls, so using it for the ceiling instead can be an unconventional touch. It can also add instant warmth and texture. Wallpaper works best if you have moulding to separate the wall and the ceiling.
