Original Moments 2015: Build A Home You Can Truly Call Your Own

If you’ve been following us on social media, you’d know that something happened on the 23rd of July that would keep homeowners at the edge of their seats. As a media partner, RenoTalk was thrilled to be the first few to catch the unveiling of OM’s latest line of furniture!

Aptly named ‘Original Moments’, the crowd was greeted with exquisite designs featuring four well-known brands such as Domitalia, Industria Divani e Poltrone (IDP), MXM, and Michael Strads.

Plush sofas and a dining table make up the newest collection, and we had the opportunity to get up close and personal with them!

Most people would expect these European-made pieces to cost a bomb, but at less than $2,500 for a leather sofa, they are actually a lot more affordable than you think. Mr. Roland Toh, Managing Director of OM, expresses, “Everyone deserves a beautiful home, not just the wealthy.”

This has been the driving force behind Roland and his team since they started the company in 1999. And thanks to their global sourcing abilities, the company has managed to bring original designer furniture to consumers at pocket-friendly prices.

The originality even extends to the arrangement of their products! Notice the pictures from earlier. OM combined pieces from different brands to create inspiring interior settings.

“By mixing and matching designs, we want homeowners to realise that individuality can be conceived through proper planning,” the Brand Manager, Ben How, points out. We couldn’t help but nod our heads at the sound of those words, as we think that every abode should take on its own identity. By melding elements from various designers, it produces a look that is exclusive to the homeowners themselves – something that is truly original.

One Of A Kind Photo-shoot

So the images above are of the furniture in OM’s spacious showroom, but what about the actual photo-shoot? Instead of a usual domestic environment, the creative team decided to play around and put together something special.

Growing up, we’ve always been taught to think out of the box by our teachers and parents. To let our creative juices run free. To be unique. To be different.

And boy, did the people at OM take this advice seriously. 

Certainly an uncommon sight: Featured here is the Rose sofa by MXM. Can you still remember how it looked like in the showroom?

Taking the literal meaning of stepping out of one’s comfort zone, the local furniture company took to the wild for the photo-shoot of its recent line of products. Yes, we’re talking about rail yards shrouded in massive foliage.

The Tree Dining Table by Domitalia takes on a more somber vibe at the outdoor shooting.

But what’s the point of these unconventional locations, you wonder. Ben explains, “By taking photos of the furniture outside of the context of a home, we allow the audience to see the beauty of each pieces of furniture on its own.”

With nature as its backdrop, the shoot presents an organic twist to how we normally view household products, and grants us the chance to really admire their craftsmanship.
